Real, lasting change, JCI Legazpi maintains, begins at the grassroots level. On March 30, 2026, the chapter took a concrete step toward that vision with the initial launch of Barangay JCI, an initiative rolled out through Project WATCH of JCI Senate Legazpi at Sitti’s Restaurant.

The launch was notable for the breadth of the JCI family it gathered around one table. Barangay JCI brought together JCI Legazpi, JCI Legazpi Dawani, JCI Daraga, and the JCI Junior Club Legazpi — a coalition spanning senior chapters, sister organizations, and the youth wing. That show of unity signaled from the outset that this would be a collaborative, rather than a solo, undertaking.
At its core, Barangay JCI is about meeting communities where they are. By orienting the movement toward the barangay — the most basic unit of Philippine local governance — the initiative aims to empower communities at the closest possible level to the people they serve. The early stage marks, in the chapter’s words, the beginning of a collaborative effort to empower barangays, develop young leaders, and create sustainable impact.
The role of JCI Senate Legazpi gives the project particular weight. As an organization of seasoned Jaycees, the Senate brought experience, networks, and continuity to the launch through Project WATCH. Their involvement reflects the same theme of leadership beyond tenure that has defined much of JCI Legazpi’s 2026 — veterans actively investing in initiatives that will be carried forward by younger members.
The launch program carried the theme “The Value of Every Second,” a phrase that doubled as a quiet challenge to those present. For an organization whose members balance careers, families, and volunteer service, time is the scarcest resource of all. Framing the initiative around that idea was a reminder that the impact of any project depends on how deliberately its people choose to spend their hours.
Gathering multiple chapters for a shared launch also lays important groundwork. Initiatives that begin with broad buy-in tend to be more resilient, drawing on a wider pool of volunteers, ideas, and resources than any single chapter could muster alone. By starting Barangay JCI as a joint effort, the organizers built in the collaboration the project will need to grow.
As an initial launch, Barangay JCI is still finding its full shape. But its founding principle is already clear and compelling: that stronger communities are built from the ground up, barangay by barangay, by leaders willing to invest their time where it matters most.
